The Indian car scene is not new to the Swedish car major Volvo Car Corporation as it opened shop here a few months ago with a launch of the S80 sedan and the XC90 SUV. The response to its cars has been overwhelming.
Largely impressed with the way driving enthusiasts accepted their cars in India, the Volvo made no delay in announcing plans to introduce another sleek and stylish car from their platform. This time, Volvo is planning to enter the coupe/convertible segment by introducing the C70.
Volvo has set benchmarks in the luxury car segment across the world and is now set to roll out the stylish C70 coupe and convertible on Indian roads. Volvo claimed that the design of the C70 is aimed at creating two cars in one without compromising on design or power. The car is developed in collaboration with Pinnafarina of Italy.
The C70 is a second generation convertible from Volvo. It is an epitome of Volvo's core values: Safety, quality and environment-friendliness. The eye-catching C70 is not going to position itself as just another convertible or coupe but is hitting Indian roads with all the elements that will easily keep rivals at bay and give them brisk competition.
Most interestingly, the C70 is built with a three-piece retractable hardtop. With this distinguished feature, the car can be converted or transformed into a coupe from a convertible or vice versa in under 30 seconds at the touch of a single button. The C70 is available in three petrol variants: 2.4, 2.4i, and T5 and two diesel variants: 2.0 and D5 across the world. But Volvo India has not yet clarified which variant is going to be introduced in India. The high-end T5 or D5 variant are expected.
The car is designed with marvellous interiors, sleek exterior styling and a long list of class-leading safety and comfort features to give car enthusiasts a new driving experience.
The car offers a wide range of variants with powerful engines. The 2.4 variant gets a compact 2.4-litre petrol engine that delivers 140 bhp of power and 220 Nm of torque, the 2.4i is powered by a 2.4-litre petrol engine that generates 170 bhp of power and 230 Nm of torque and the T5 receives a 2.5-litre turbo-charged petrol engine delivering 230 bhp of power and 320 Nm of torque. The D5 is equipped with a 2.4-litre turbo-charged diesel engine that produces 177 bhp and impressive 350 Nm of torque.
The engines are coupled to one of three transmissions - 5-speed manual, 5-speed Geartronic Automatic transmission or 6-speed manual. All enable good fuel economy and clean exhaust emissions. The C70 is perfectly suited for excellent highway cruising and delivers a smooth and steady ride even at high speeds. The handling is responsive and smooth and ride quality is well-controlled. With the 6-speed manual transmission, the car goes from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds.
The C70 looks cute and handsome from the outside and sports a strong and appealing design. The front is dominated by a unique and stylish chrome-trimmed Volvo grille positioned between the striking headlights. The solid upward sweeping A-pillar and delicately thin and downward sweeping C-pillar make it classy.
The interior is quiet and luxurious with fine materials and provides unparalleled comfort and luxury. Four persons can comfortably fit in the C70. The car offers adequate cargo space with the convertible roof up as well as when it's retracted.
The interior which is built on Scandinavian product design base offers neat and tidy surfaces, luxurious amenities and excellent functions that make sure that passengers feel safe, comfortable and secure.
The interior also features luxurious and comfortably designed leather seats with armrests and headrests, advanced air conditioning system, superior audio system, driver-oriented neatly designed dashboard and tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel. Besides, it is also packed with top-notch advanced safety features to provide maximum safety to passengers in case of road accidents.
