24 June, 2011 The head of Suzuki Motor Corp on Thursday said that the strike that lasted six working days at the Manesar factory of subsidiary Maruti Suzuki India Ltd was negligible, leading to an output loss of just 16,000 vehicles.
“In a market where we sell 1.2 million vehicles a year, 16,000 vehicles was a matter of inventory adjustment,” CEO Osamu Suzuki told a news conference.
He added that he was not surprised at the short-lived labour strife, repeating Maruti’s stance that it would not recognise a separate labour union for the Manesar factory demanded by the striking workers. Maruti Suzuki has one workers’ union recognised by management.
