Volkswagen Jetta, a premium entry level car positioned in the saloon/sedan segment, by German automaker Volkswagen, is finally here in India. The Jetta has been marketed over five generations now. The All-New Volkswagen Jetta now gets a sleek new design and a very powerful engine complemented with all-round performance and comfort.

The All New Jetta features a 2.0 Litre, 4-cylinder CRDi engine with a maximum power output of 140 bhp @4,200 rpm and a maximum torque of 320 Nm@1750-2500 rpm. The All-New Jetta features a 6-Speed Gear box and is available in bothe manual and automatic transmission options.

Launched with an entirely new design and powerful engine, the new Jetta will be available only in the diesel variant in India. The car will initially be available in four variants, Treadline, Comfortline and Highline manual and DSG gearbox.

Clean, simple and stylish lines coupled with large taillights to give it an added flair, the Jetta features an L shaped stoplight, which is a prominent highlight. 21 December, 2010 German carmaker Volkswagen has said that it will launch the new edition of its Jetta and Passat in India next year.
“We will launch the new Jetta and new Passat in the Indian market in 2011,” Volkswagen Group’s Head of Marketing and PR (Passenger Cars) Lutz Kothe said. “We have no plan to localise the Jetta or Passat, but we will continue to assemble them in India,” he adding, "India is the fastest-growing market in the luxury car segment and we will continue to grow here.”
He refused to reveal the price of the new Jetta and Passat. He also mentioned that there was a waiting period of two-to-three months for its Polo and Vento due to overwhelming market response for the two models.
“We are gradually ramping-up production at our Chakan facility in Maharashtra to cater to the increasing demand, and the Polo (white colour) has been more in demand in the market.”
Volkswagen sold 4,613 units of Polo and Vento in November this year. It sold over 26,000 units across models from January-November this year. Earlier the company mentioned that it will be utilising the full annual production capacity of 1.1-lakh units at its Chakan plant by end-2011. The company has invested up to Rs 3,800-crore in India so far.

Volkswagen plans to launch the facelifted Jetta and Passat during 2011. The company has plans to strengthen its products after it launched the Polo hatch & Vento Sedan.

Jetta and Passat have become old as they were out in 2007-08 and we are looking at revitalising the models and bringing in face-lifts next year,” said Neeraj Garg, member of board and director (passenger cars), Volkswagen Group Sales India.

Volkswagen India said there is no plan to locally produce the Jetta and Passat sedan and will only assembled locally. On the other side, the company is aiming to launch its Tiguan SUV in India.
