Toyota might approach the BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd) a government based electricity firm to design its electric vehicles to make the environment in green.
Toyota is on the verge of negotiating with the officials of BHEL. The initiative is to avail subsidy for electric vehicles. The move also comes in the wake of earlier moves by the firm on producing electric buses and electric locomotives. There will be official visits by the team from BHEL to the camps of Toyota Nagoya in Japan. Before Toyota, GM and Nissan-Renault haven been involved in the electric vehicle concept globally. Toyota is also on the scene with its Prius hybrid and M&M is cashing in on the Reva. However, major players like Maruti, GM, Hyundai, Tata Motors and others are yet to involve in the EV concept.

The primordial aim for Toyota has been partnering for delivering good vehicles under the electric version. The proposal may either culminate as a JV or as a sharing of technical set up. BHEL had similar offers from the Dutch based DHBC BV for availing similar facility under Inter-Ministerial Governing Council on EVs.
The Indian auto market is slowly inching toward alternative fuel in the wake of the sky rocketing fuel prices. In a bid to promote such moves, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy will offer incentive of 20% subsidy for electric cars and two wheelers on factory price. Additionally the scheme is valid till 2011-12. The fund allocated is Rs95 crore. There is however a pre condition that there ought to be a minimum of 30% localized components.

The Tata Nano has received the world’s oldest and most coveted GOOD DESIGNTM Award for 2010, which is conferred annually by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design together with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies (www.chi-athenaeum.org). The award for the Tata Nano has come in the category of transportation.
Founded in Chicago in 1950, GOOD DESIGN bestows international recognition for advancing new, visionary, and innovative product concepts, invention and originality, and for stretching the envelope beyond what is considered ordinary product and consumer design. In 2010, GOOD DESIGN celebrated its 60-year anniversary as the world’s oldest and most prestigious awards programme for product and graphic design.
The Tata Nano’s design is such that it offers an incredibly spacious passenger compartment which can comfortably seat four adults. With a length of just 3.1 metres, width of 1.5 metres and height of 1.6 metres, the Tata Nano has the smallest exterior footprint for a car in India but is 21% more spacious than the smallest car available today. A high seating position makes ingress and egress easy. Its small size coupled with a turning radius of just 4 metres, makes it extremely manoeuvrable in the smallest of parking slots.
The engine enables the car to have a top speed of 105 kmph and negotiate inclines with a gradeability of 30%. Its fuel efficiency of 23.6 km/litre, certified by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) under mandated test conditions, is the highest for any petrol car in India. The high fuel efficiency, coupled with a low kerb weight of 600 kg, ensures that the Tata Nano – at 101 gm / km – has the lowest CO2 emission amongst cars in India.
Since August this year, the company has already begun open sales of the Tata Nano, and it is already freely available in 12 states. Retail sales have substantially increased in the first five states of open sales. Besides its already existing showrooms, the company is setting up Special Nano Access Points for customers in the hinterlands to experience, test-drive or test-ride the car. Gradually expanding these reach-out initiatives, coupled with customer benefits (4-year / 60,000 km warranty; comprehensive maintenance contract at only Rs.99 per month; finance options up to 90%), Tata Motors will cover the entire country with open sales by March 2011 to take the Tata Nano to those who dream of owning the car.

This is our best hint yet at the new Subaru Impreza, surely a car that seems to have suffered an identity crisis of late. The new was shown at the 2010 Los Angeles auto show.
Subaru dubs its new design mantra Confidence in Motion. A throwaway phrase, but it is supposed to encapsulate the company's new brand strategy.
Let's hope they don't seek inspiration in the miles of Burberry on show around the Subaru stand at LA.
So what is the new 2011 Subaru Impreza going to look like?
Subaru calls this a four-door coupe, yet claims a roomy four-seater interior. It seems that the Golf-alike hatchback has not been the success Subaru had hoped.
There's a prominent Subaru viking badge at the front with a heavily accented horizontal flavour. This new nose is said to be bound for all future production Subarus.
We don't expect the rear-view cameras to be standard on the next Impreza, which is due to arrive in late 2011.
What about inside the new Impreza?
There is space for four and a couple of interesting innovations. The steering wheel has touchpads built into the spokes, allowing drivers to access minor switchgear without moving their hands from the wheel. There's also a camera-based EyeSight system to help spot hazards around the car.
Underpinning the is the latest iteration of the 2.0-litre nat-asp boxer four, mated to a CVT auto box. Four-wheel drive is, naturally, standard.
