Renault GCC has revealed the new at the Riyadh Motor Show in Saudi Arabia. The Safrane was introduced to the GCC in 2008, tailored, claimed Renault, to the particular needs of the Middle East market. At least 2624 people agree and bought the cars.
Although it’s badged Renault, it is actually built by Renault-Samsung in South Korea and is partly based on the SM5 saloon, itself derived from a Nissan Altima.
Renault are claiming superior cabin comfort and rear space for the car which also features air purifying Samsung Super Plasma ionizer and an Arkamys and Bose sound system. It’s powered by a 3.5-litre V6 producing 240bhp. Offering a good level of kit, it comes with all the usual goodies and is expected to go on sale across the region on 1st January 2010.
Renault GCC Managing Director, Mustansir Lakdawala said: ‘The Renault Safrane is a flagship model for the brand, and the new model has improved upon the successes and strengths of previous models, bringing a fantastic high-end, luxury saloon to the GCC market.
‘The Safrane is an ideal model for GCC customers. Owners in the region have exacting standards for cars, looking for something that will stand up to the rigours of the climate, while offering exceptional comfort and luxury, and a powerful engine for effortless motoring often on less than ideal roads, all wrapped up in a stylish saloon body. The new Renault Safrane meets all these criteria.
‘Having been developed with the Middle East climate in mind, and with the "Drive the Change" philosophy at the heart of the car, the latest innovative technology has been implemented to deliver an experience, not just to the driver but to all occupants of the new Safrane,’ he said.
