The number of vehicles registered in Dubai increased by 65% in the first three quarters of this year to exceed one million, government data shows.
Figures from Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) published by the Dubai Statistics Centre (DSC) show 1,029,634 vehicles were registered in Dubai in the first nine months of 2010, up from 624,462 in the year-earlier period.
The figures include both new and renewed registrations.
Passenger vehicles represented the bulk of registrations, accounting for 86% of listed vehicles and representing a rise of 68% on the same period in 2009.
In the nine months to September 30, the number of motorcycles registered in the emirate doubled to 18,883, up from 9,223 in the year-earlier period.
In 2009, new vehicle registrations represented around a fifth of the total number of registrations. New registration data for 2010 is not yet available.
