Toyota has launched the Etios to make its presence known in the entry level sedan segment in the Indian market. The Etios sedan has been tested across the Indian roads covering more than a hundred thousand kilometres. Keeping in mind the needs of the Indian customers, the Etios sedan has been made to accommodate maximum space and comfort features. Even the pricing of the car has been kept very competitive. The Etios has been designed on a sedan platform and not as a hatch with a boot.
Toyota Etios comes equipped with a powerful engine and five variants of the car are available in the market: J, G, G Optional, V and VX. The sedan comes in a choice of six very appealing colours including Symphony Silver, Harmony Beige, Serene Bluish Silver, Vermilion Red, Celestial Black and White that could go well with the Indian summer.
The hatchback of the Etios sedan, Liva, will be launched in the market in April 2011. The diesel variants of the Etios, both the versions, will feature the same engine which we have earlier seen in Corolla Altis diesel, and will be launched in June, 2011. Along with the Indian market, the Toyota Etios hatchback - Etios Liva will also be sold in Russia, South America and other emerging markets.
The Toyota Etios sedan is equipped with 2NR-FE engine - 1.5 litre or 1496cc 16V DOHC engine. The engine is capable of producing a maximum power of 88.7 bhp at 5600rpm and maximum torque of 131.9 Nm at 3000 rpm. The modestly powerful engine is paired with a 5 speed manual transmission gearbox. The engine is responsive at low revs and takes up the slack well, which is likely to make it immensely easy to drive on the Indian roads. The transmission is also very slick.
With its new offering Etios sedan, Toyota has hit just the right chord with the Indian customers. The Etios sedan boasts of an ARAI certified fuel mileage of 17.6kmpl. When it comes to speed, the Toyota Etios is in league with its competitors. The car can do a top speed of 165kmph, and roar from a standstill to 100kmph in less than 12 seconds.
The Toyota Etios comes with electric power steering that offers excellent manoeuvrability and the tilt features ensures an ergonomic driving experience. The Toyota sedan’s suspension boasts of McPherson strut in the front and torsion beam in the back. The Toyota Etios features ventilated disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear.

The Toyota Etios, with its lack of flamboyant styling, comes across as a conservative entry level sedan. Despite that, it has some style elements that would be appreciated by the Indian crowd. A distinctive front grille with a smile line and sculpted surface enhances the road presence of the car. The rear of the Etios sedan has a flowing C pillar, rounded end and three dimensional combination lamps make add to the good looks of the car. The top variant of Etios features six spoke alloy wheels, body coloured outside rear side view mirrors and door handles.
The interior of the Toyota Etios sedan is probably the best thing about the car. Toyota has managed to keep the interiors of the car simple, without compromising on some jazz. The seats are ergonomically designed with integrated headrests. A stylish instrument panel, including speedometer and tripmetre, is placed near the dashboard. The three spoke steering wheel comes in dual tone along with the rest of the interior.
Toyota Etios features a newly developed Air Conditioning system with powerful and multi-directional vents that ensure superior cooling inside the cabin. The car also features a class-first ‘clean air filter’ which is standard across all grades for purified air in the cabin.
Toyota Etios comes fully strapped with features that are common to the other C-segment car. The Etios sedan has got power steering, power windows, remote central locking, dash integrated music system, steering mounted audio controls, rear defogger, steering adjustment and various other features that are aimed at providing maximum comfort to the passengers. Toyota has launched the Etios Liva to make its presence felt in the entry-level premium hatchback segment in the Indian market. The Etios Liva hatchback is a product of conceptualising the mind of an Indian car driver. Keeping in mind the needs of the Indian customers, the Etios Liva hatchback has been made to accommodate maximum space and comfort features. Even the pricing of the car has been kept very competitive; infact the price of the base version of car can give nightmares to the other competitors in the segment.
Toyota Etios Liva comes equipped with a fuel efficient engine and is offered in five variants such as: J, G, G special edition, V and VX. The hatchback comes in a choice of seven very appealing colours including Vermilion Red, Celestial Black, Serene Bluish Silver, White, Symphony Silver, Harmony Beige and Ultramarine Blue.

The Toyota hatcback's suspension boasts of McPherson strut in the front and torsion beam in the back. The Toyota Etios features ventilated disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear.

There is no much change in the styling of the Liva when compared to the Etios sedan. The styling remains bare basic for the Liva, though Toyota has added abundance of chrome to give that upmarket feel for the car. The Liva has some style elements that would be appreciated by the Indian crowd. A distinctive front grille with a smile line and sculpted surface enhances the road presence of the car. The styling of the car as mentioned earlier has been kept at its minimum, Toyota has gone extra lenghts to spruce up the car with side skirts, roof and bumper spoilers. The rear of the Etios Liva is where the similarities end between the sedan and the hatchback. The hatchback gets a huge chrome strip right below the rear windshield, which enhances the look of the car. The three dimensional combination lamps add up to the good looks of the car. The top variant of Etios Liva stands tall on 15-inch wheels while the lower end variants get 14-inch tyres. The Liva also features body coloured outside rear side view mirrors and door handles accentuated with chrome strips.
The interior of the Toyota Etios Liva is probably the best thing about the car. Toyota has managed to keep the interiors of the car simpl, without compromising on some jazz. Toyota Kirloskar to launch premium hatch back Etios Liva

23 June, 2011 Japanese auto maker Toyota Kirloskar on Wednesday said that the much awaited premium hatch back Etios Liva will be launched this month on June 27 in Delhi. The company had earlier deferred the launch of the Etios Liva from April to June. The decision was taken to reduce the long waiting period for the Etios.
The concept vehicles of the Etios and Etios Liva were first unveiled at the Auto Expo last year in Delhi. The Liva will be Toyota’s foray into the highly popular hatchback segment, which currently accounts for 60 percent of the volumes. “The Etios has been well received in the market. We have delivered more than 20,000 cars as on date”.
“We have reduced the waiting period to less than one month by increasing production. We hope to get a good response for the Liva. Pricing details will be announced at the launch ,” said Sandeep Singh, DMD marketing, Toyota Kirloskar.
Keeping the target customer in mind, youthful and fun filled activities have been lined up as part of the marketing campaign. The TV ad campaign will feature music composed by the music maestro AR Rahman.
Toyota Etios Sedan Buyers Can Opt Liva Compact Due To Long Waiting Period

Toyota has received high number of bookings for its new Etios Sedan; the company is considering to offer a unique way to tackle the customer who booked the sedan by giving them an option to shift to the company’s compact car Liva, which will be launched in the month of March 2011.
At the same time, the company is also considering to marginally increase the production of Etios to accommodate the rush.
According to sources, Toyota is worried that the seven to eight months’ waiting period for Etios may prompt customers to shift to rival brands. So, it is working on a plan to offer those with Etios bookings the option to go for the compact Liva, though details are still being worked out. It is not yet clear whether these people will get a priority in the delivery of the 1200cc petrol-engine Liva , which is likely to be priced around Rs 4 lakh.
The company is currently doing this to ensure that the customer will stay within the Toyota fold, while getting an option to cut down on their waiting periods. The company has already started delivering the Etios sedan earlier this month, and so far it has received bookings over 18500 units.
Toyota Kirloskar deputy MD (sales & marketing) Sandeep Singh said, “We are looking at various options, and a concrete plan is yet to be firmed up.”
Toyota plans to produce around 70000 units in the year 2011 between the Etios Sedan and Liva Hatch in 2011.
“Our manufacturing team is looking at this and a decision on enhancing production will be taken towards the end of February. However, if it happens, the increment in production may not be a major one. Whatever happens will be through improved efficiency and tweaking things here and there,” Singh said.
On the other side, the company is currently ramping up numbers at its plant and will start second-shift operation to meet the demand and the production will come to 200000 units annually though reaching this capacity will take time.
TKM targets to sell around 300000 to 350000 units by 2015.

If you thought 8,100 Etios sedans in 7 days was awesome. Wait till you here this: Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) has registered a mind-boggling 12,000 orders for the Etios within just 15 days of the launch. That is nothing like we have heard before
On the launch, TKM set a target of 70,000 units for 2011. But at this rate the company will achieve that target in less than 3 months. These numbers sound even more huge when you take into consideration the fact that the production hasn’t even started and not a single car is on the road. It is supposed to begin on the 20th of this month at Toyota’s plant near Bangalore. The waiting list has already stretched to over 8 months! Book a car now and it will come in August next year.
These numbers are just too hard to believe. Who is buying this car? Are these really individuals or has the car entered the fleet market? Because make no mistake this is an IDEAL fleet car. It’s inexpensive, very spacious and crucially it’s economical. If it has entered the fleet market then that is so not the target customer of Toyota.
