After a great saga with a successful career spanning almost nine years, the SLK has been revamped and redesigned and is back. The SLK was introduced in 1998 as an answer to the BMW Z3 and Porsche Boxster in the premium small roadster segment.

The SLK's most unique feature is its retractable hardtop roof, which offers more security and a quieter ride than its competitors' soft tops. The electro hydraulically operated steel roof either opens or closes in less than 30 seconds with the touch of a button converting the Mercedes SLK from a closed Coupe to a cool Convertible.

Improvements over the years kept the car competitive. After nine years on the market the Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class has undergone an ever charismatic redesign. In every bit the 2007-generation SLK is as eye-catching as the original racecar. The new SLK-Class has larger wheels and an enhanced Vario-roof that is available with optional remote-control functionality. New powerful engines, improved performance, and a host of other optional equipment are now a part of the SLK package.

The SLK model offers three variants such as the SLK 200 Kompressor, the SLK 350 and the SLK 55 AMG.

In 2007, the SLK 200 Kompressor variant comes standard with a 1.8L In-line 4 petrol engine that churns out 163 bhp and the SLK 350 variant comes with a 3.5L V6 petrol engine that generates 272 bhp. The SLK 55 AMG is equipped with a more powerful 5.4L V8 engine that delivers a remarkable 360 bhp. The SLK 350 and the SLK 55 AMG can cover 0 -100 km in an amazing 5.5 seconds.

A revolutionary 7-Speed Automatic Transmission (7G-Tronic) comes standard in the SLK 350 and the SLK 55 AMG, while a 5-Speed Automatic Transmission is standard on the SLK 200 Kompressor. These precisely matched transmissions allow the SLK-Class to offer you with optimum power transfer.

The more direct rack-and-pinion steering is very well weighted and accurate, and the car is perfectly stable at highway speeds. The McPherson three-link front suspension with anti-dive control and the Multi-link rear suspension are tuned to give you an ultimate sporty drive.

New Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class Car - Interior

The Mercedes-Benz SLK was systematically redesigned for 2007 and the objectives were evident. Where the last-generation SLK was cute, almost elegant, the current one has a more aggressive appearance. The SLK imitates the Mercedes McLaren SLR road car, which is hand-built in conjunction with the McLaren Formula 1 team.

The new interior design concept with a black cockpit and Aluminium-finished controls offers a compelling, high-quality driving environment. It features sports seats with a magnesium frame and the new display and control concept with a central display. An innovative Airscarf system feeds warm air to your neck and shoulders via dedicated registers in the headrests, making the Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class even more comfortable with the top down in chilly weather.

The SLK is a small, two-seat sports car. Though roomier than the previous-generation SLK, the cabin is a bit cozy, particularly with the folding hardtop in place. The seats are excellent, widely adjustable in a variety of directions with leather upholstery.

With the host of standard equipments such as a sound system, CD changer, electrically adjustable seats, 10-Spoke alloys, and a steering wheel gearshift button, the SLK-Class offers one of the most compelling combinations of style, performance, and comfort available. With luxury optional features including leather upholstery, sound systems, and communication systems, the SLK-Class can be customized to your taste.

Some of the high tech safety features include anti-lock braking system (ABS) and front and side airbags.

For the first time Mercedes-Benz is offering a choice of three variants of the lightweight-construction vario-roof for the new SLK: in just a few seconds this feature transforms the roadster into a coupe with a “fixed” roof at the touch of a button – and vice versa: The standard version is a roof painted in the vehicle color. Optionally available is a panorama vario-roof with dark-tinted glass. The third option is a world premiere – the panorama vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL. This glass roof switches to light or dark at the press of a button. In light mode it is virtually transparent, offering an open-air experience even in cold weather. In its dark state the roof provides welcome shade and prevents the interior from heating up from the sun’s rays. In other words: a comfortable atmosphere at the touch of a button.
