19 October, 2011 Maruti, which is synonymous with Haryana and Gurgaon, is looking outside the state to set up its operations. The continuing labour unrest at its Manesar and Gurgaon plants appear to have hastened its search, and the company is zeroing in on Gujarat.
Sources say the Japanese automaker, frustrated over the repeated interruptions in production due to labour problems at Manesar, wants to quickly finalize its expansion plans beyond Haryana, something that’s not liked by the state government but is seen as "urgent" by the company’s management.
Already, Maruti car sales have been affected, and more worryingly for the firm, the demand seems to have been hit because of the uncertainty about delivery schedules, making the management of the country’s biggest car-maker rather anxious.
While Suzuki chairman Osamu Suzuki met Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on September 8-after the collapse of the first peace agreement and in between the second labour strike-the company’s board looks set to approve the proposal to invest Rs 18,000 crore, including Rs 6,000 crore by auto ancillaries, in Gujarat for a plant spread over 1,000 acres and with a capacity of two million units.
Interestingly, this will be the largest factory site for Suzuki globally, bigger than the combined size of its existing sites at Gurgaon and Manesar. The new facility in Gujarat will mark the beginning of a slow shift out of Haryana-a move that could affect not just the automobile hub in Delhi’s neighbourhood but also impact real estate activity in and around Gurgaon. Already, several automakers, ranging from Tata Motors to Ford and Peugeot-Citreon, have started work on setting up facilities in Gujarat, which is emerging as a major auto hub in the country.
For Haryana, this will be the second blow after Japanese auto major Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India decided to set up plants in Rajasthan and Karnataka following major labour unrest at its Manesar facility. The production loss to Maruti Suzuki due to the three strikes, including the current one which has already lasted 12 days, has been over 60,000 units, resulting in a production loss of a Rs 1,800 crore. In the June quarter, Maruti’s total income was estimated at Rs 8,500 crore, while the profit was Rs 550 crore.
If the Gujarat proposal goes ahead, the production from the site at Becharji in Mehsana is expected to start by 2015. In the first phase, which will be completed by 2020, a capacity for one million units will be build. The next phase of expansion will follow.

09 June, 2011 After Maruti Suzuki, the world’s fourth largest car-maker, Ford Motors is revving up to drive into Gujarat .
The Detroit-based Ford Motors, plans to invest Rs 5,000 crore to set up a three-lakh cars-per-annum plant in Gujarat .
The state government has identified 400 acres of land near Sanand, where Tata Motors commissioned its Nano plant last year. Another 100 acres will be set aside for components units.
While Ford officials and state government authorities remained tight-lipped, sources close to the development say an announcement is likely sometime this month. Ford India, the US car-maker’s Indian subsidiary, already manages a Rs 1,700-crore manufacturing plant at Maraimalai Nagar, 45 km from Chennai with a peak capacity of two lakh units per annum. Ford India neither confirmed nor denied the development .
If Ford finalises on Gujarat, the state’s dreams of becoming an auto hub will get a big boost. While General Motors and Tata Motors already have units in the state, companies like Maruti Suzuki are likely to finalise Gujarat to set up a one million car per annum plant soon.
Among other reasons, the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor, nearly 40 percent of the corridor passes through Gujarat and ports like Kandla and Mundra are seen as major attractions for the manufacturing sector.

Encouraged by buyers' response to their recent car launches in India, the local arms of German auto maker Volkswagen AG and US-based Ford Motor Co. are exploring plans to reinforce their manufacturing capacity by setting up new plants to drive the new phase of growth. Both companies are seeking to set up new factories in northern India, said an official at the ministry of heavy industry. At present, Volkswagen has a manufacturing plant in Pune, Maharashtra, while Ford's production base is located near Chennai.

"People from both Volkswagen and Ford visited us today, expressing interest in setting up their new plants in the northern part of the country," the official said on condition of anonymity. Volkswagen, which in recent months launched the Polo hatchback and Vento sedan, and Ford have both seen sales post rapid growth in India this year. Ford, which this year launched the Figo hatchback, sold 79,586 units in the 11 months to November, compared with 27,906 units in the same period last year.

Volkswagen sold 26,000 cars in the same period, a more than eight-fold increase from 3,000 a year ago. Both have ambitious growth plans lined up for India, Asia's third-largest car market, where car sales expanded 33.72% to 1,408,475 units in October, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers. "With both Ford and Volkswagen having received a good response for their offerings, they will be facing a capacity constraint in the next three-five years," said Deepesh Rathore, managing director at IHS Automotive, a market intelligence firm. According to the ministry of heavy industry official cited above, Ford plans to invest around '4,000-5,000 crore in the plant with a capacity to turn out at least 200,000 units per year.

"They are looking to develop the new plant as the export hub, which will cater to other Asian markets," besides the local market, he added. Ford is likely to start building the plant in 2011 in the Delhi NCR region, he said. The official said the firm wants to tap more customers by having a manufacturing presence in the north. "They think that staying in Chennai may not help them in the long-term and having presence in the northern part of the country makes a lot of sense." Michael Boneham, president of Ford India Pvt. Ltd, declined to comment on the company's plans, but said that the company's Chennai plant was running to near full capacity.

The company currently runs two shifts at its plant and is likely to add a third one soon, Boneham said. Ford plans to launch eight new models by 2015 in India. Volkswagen, meanwhile, is conducting a feasibility study on a possible new plant in northern states such as Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, the ministry official said. A Volkswagen spokesperson denied the existence of any immediate expansion plans.

chandhok karun hrt melbourne 2010 1024x682 Karun Chandoks F1 Drive

Karun Chandok the Indian Prodigy is starring down the F1 barrel once again. Chandok had made his debut at the start of this season with Team Hispania. He had raced 10 races for them before being replaced by Japan’s Sakon Yamamoto. This move was done by the Hispania team as financially they were a bit suffocated and Sakon Yamamoto’s seat eased that suffocation a bit. It is also said believed that Hispania wanted to evaluate all their drivers before establishing a line-up for 2011.

Since then Chandok has been really working hard and has been involved in deep discussions for another F1 drive !

Karun Chandok in his recent statement said “My goal for next year as I’ve said before is still firmly to be in Formula 1 and negotiations for a drive in the 2011 F1 World Championship are progressing in the right way, so hopefully we’ll have a final program in place before the F1 world shuts for Christmas,”
