21 September, 2011 Nissan on Tuesday scotched rumours that its alliance with Bajaj Auto for developing an ultra low-cost vehicle was on a shaky ground, saying it is still in talks with the Indian auto major for the project.

Speculation had been rife that the Nissan-Renault- Bajaj joint venture was not working well as the two overseas JV partners are unhappy with Bajaj over the pace of project.
Asked about the time of the joint announcement, Normand declined to give any specific date, saying “We will let you know at the right time.”
Meanwhile, Nissan Motor India Managing Director Kiminobu Tokuyama said his company was studying the prospects of launching a small car in the fast-growing Indian market on its own as well.
“We, at Nissan, are committed to offer a good product to any segment... so we are now studying the project of launching a small car... but it is too premature to say when we will launch the car,” Kiminobu said.
The Renault-Nissan alliance signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in 2008 with Bajaj Auto to develop an ultra low-cost vehicle for India and other emerging markets, and had planned to launch it in 2012.
The design, manufacturing and sourcing was to be done by Bajaj and Renault-Nissan would handle marketing in India and overseas, according to the agreement.
The Renault-Nissan alliance is investing Rs 4,500 crore to set up a plant in Chennai, which will have an annual capacity of four lakh units.

22 September, 2011 Japanese carmaker Nissan Motor Company, which sells the hatchback Micra in India, is looking to make greater inroads into the booming small car market by driving in cheaper models.
The auto major is considering three to four compact cars in the sub-Rs 5 lakh category for the domestic market over the next three to five years. Several vendors involved in the project have been quoted that Nissan may launch a compact car on the K2 platform by 2013-14 and price it at Rs 3-4 lakh.
This will be followed by an even cheaper compact car, which is being designed by Hinduja Group’s engineering arm Defiance and is likely to be priced at Rs 2-3 lakh. If the company’s talks with Bajaj Auto fructify, Nissan will be able to launch three to four compact cars within three to five years.
Small cars comprise seven of every 10 cars sold in India. While competition is hotting up in the premium hatchback category as well, the sub-Rs 5 lakh category accounts for 40-45 percent-of the small car market.
“We are open to partnerships. We want to have a competitive offering in the Indian market, there are different possibilities from the very bottom of Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 4 lakh, but I will not get into specifics,” said Gilles Normand, corporate vice-president, Africa, West Asia and India, Nissan Motor.
The company will, however, expand its presence in other categories as well. By 2013, Nissan plans to launch at least one vehicle a year in every segment - small cars, SUV, MPV, luxury cars over the recentlylaunched sedan Sunny.

13 April, 2011 Car maker Nissan Motor India said it has hiked prices of its small car Micra by up to Rs 11,170 with immediate effect to offset the pressure of rising input costs.
“The hike will be applicable to both petrol and diesel versions and will be in the range of Rs 2,500 (0.5 per cent) to Rs 11,170 (2 per cent),” the company said in a statement.
The existing ex-showroom, Delhi, prices of the petrol version of Micra varies between Rs 4.06 lakh and Rs 4.36 lakh, while the diesel car is available for Rs 5.59 lakh-Rs 6.05 lakh.
The company, however, did not raise the prices of its imported models such as sports utility vehicle X-Trail, luxury sedan Teana and sports car 370Z, it added.
Commenting on the development, Nissan Motor India Managing Director and CEO Kiminobu Tokuyama said: “There has been a steady increase in the input cost over a period of time. It has come to a situation now that the price hike is inevitable and we have decided to increase the price of Micra.”
In this month, many auto makers have raised the prices of their products on account of rising commodity rates. The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India increased prices of its vehicles across all models between Rs 1,100 to Rs 9,000 for similar reasons.
Homegrown auto major Mahindra and Mahindra raised prices of its entire range of vehicles by up to Rs 15,000. Tata Motors has also hiked prices of its passenger vehicles by up to Rs 36,000 from April 1.
Another big car maker Hyundai Motor India is also mulling taking a similar step.

14 April, 2011 Nissan Motor India on Wednesday announced its move into a new corporate office, spread across an area of 13,500 square feet at T Nagar in Chennai.
“Today marks yet another significant milestone for us at Nissan, as we move to our new corporate office in Chennai,” Nissan Motor India’s Managing Director and CEO, Kiminobu Tokuyama, said.
The office will house employees of the programme management team, corporate planning, product planning, exports, after-sales, finance, communications and human resource functions, the company said in a statement.
“Not only will this new facility aim to meet the requirements of Nissan’s growing operations in India, it is also in line with our strategy to draw synergies with our alliance partner, Renault, whose corporate office is housed in the same building,” Tokuyama added.
Nissan and Renault signed a MoU with the Government of Tamil Nadu in February 2008 to set up a manufacturing plant at Oragadam, near Chennai at an investment of Rs 4,500-crore.
The Renault-Nissan alliance plant was inaugurated in a record time of 21-months since its ground-breaking ceremony in June 2008. The plant has an initial capacity of 2,00,000 units per year and can reach 4,00,000 units per year at full capacity in the future.
Nissan’s Mumbai office will continue to act as the regional office with some of the members from the product planning team, the homologation team, after-sales and colleagues from Hover Automotive India, Nissan's strategic alliance partner for sales, marketing and dealer development in India.

The Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan Motors had launched its second product, the Teana, in India in 2007. Nissan previously, in 2004, launched the most fuel-efficient SUV in India known as the X-TRAIL. Now in an attempt to expand its hold on the Indian market, Nissan brings out the facelifted Teana with a refreshed look and a powerful engine.

The new Teana pools amazingly advanced technology with a streamlined body design and a powerful engine. Teana is a luxury sedan that is designed to attract stares and awe its passengers. It holds mechanisms and parts that have been imported from Japan and the difference in road performance is noticeable.

Teana now comes in two petrol variants: XL and XV. The two variants are powered by a reputed Nissan VQ series engines. The new Nissan Teana is out to give tough competition to the Skoda Superb and Toyota Camry.

Under the hood of the face lifted Teana lays a robust and smooth 2496cc VQ25DE V6 petrol engine that has been acclaimed as one of the “Ten Best Engines” by Ward‚s Auto World magazine for 15 consecutive years. This engine produces a massive power of 179.5 bhp@6000 rpm and a torque of 228 Nm@4400 rpm giving you the lightning streak pick-up on highways and clearing the roads for you in cities.

This power is coupled with a smooth shifting XTRONIC CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) that you can govern with the touch of a single finger. An ECCS Electronic Fuel Injection Control allows for the optimal power generation in the engine, thereby improving its fuel-economy. It rides on independent struts of ball-joint type suspension in the front and multi-link type suspension in the rear which can absorb all kinds of road irregularities.

The new Teana comes with 17-inch tyres and aluminium alloy wheels as standard fitment and it has a revolutionary multilink suspension that smoothens out the most stubborn of bumps. Extra legroom allows you to stretch and relax while enjoying a long drive.

New Nissan Teana Car - Interior

Luxury is just one word that can define the Teana. Its leather upholstery and 8-way electronically powered front driver's seat will have you enjoying a relaxing drive all day long. It has a turning radius of 5.3 meters that gives you absolute control over the car. The Teana is longer than most cars in its segment and it has a wide wheelbase that improves its interior space and stability. The new Teana sports retractable stylish glass sunroof with UV protection, which lets the rear seat passengers enjoy the sun, filling the cabin with an open air ambience. The sophisticated wooden interiors and the stylish dashboard caress you like a luxury suite of a 5-star hotel. The cockpit is not only visually appealing but also carefully designed to deliver ultimate convenience and ease of use to the driver and all passengers concerned. The information console provides you with complete visual confirmation of air conditioning settings, outside temperature, audio system and time, as well as it allows you to monitor the drive computer. A well designed visual instrumentation with high-contrast white illumination assures maximum visibility. The large speedometer is further enhanced by a silver-coloured ring that cannot escape your notice. A one-of-its-kind rear power sunshade keeps the sunlight and glare away from rear passengers without blocking the driver's rear vision while also maintaining the temperature you set within the cabin of the car. There is a LED indirect illumination on the center console, front passenger and rear door grips that shines softly to create a more welcoming interior ambience. The soft-touch buttons and the pampering ottoman-style leg-rest on the front seats to support the lower legs take driving luxury to the next level. The boot consists of 476 litres of space that will not keep you wanting.

The revised Nissan Teana’s exterior is a balance of beauty and elegance. It has wheel arches that fit perfectly over the wheels and add to its aura of panache. It has high-projector headlamps, designed to light up the road, placed on either side of a stylish chrome grill. It also consists of high mounted LED rear stop lamps and LED rear lamps that will make sure that you catch everyone's eye when you decide to break. Teana is designed to absorb impact. It features crushable zones and a safety restraint zone that work together with multiple Supplemental Restraint System airbags to avoid or reduce injuries, in case of an accident. Wearing seatbelts at all times is advisable. In a collision, active head restraints instantly move forward to support the head and reduce impact on the neck.

Standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, drive computer, twin exhaust, 8-way electrically powered driver's seat, 4-way electrically powered front passenger's seat, powered rear sun shade, active head rests, and 6 CD changer with 6 audio speakers.
