Mahindra, the leading SUV car manufacturer in India, has launched the Logan with a few changes and named it “Verito”. The Logan, which came from the joint venture of Mahindra & Mahindra and Renault, was launched in 2005. After the discontinuation of the partnership of the two, Mahindra decided to keep the Logan in its camp. Since then the sales performance of the Logan has been on the rise.
The Mahindra Verito is available in 12 variants. The BS IV variants of the Verito include 1.4 G2, 1.4 G4, 1.5 D2, 1.5 D4, and 1.5 D6. On the other hand the BS III variants include 1.4 G2, 1.4 G4, 1.4 G4 Play, 1.5 D2, 1.5 D4, 1.5 D4 Play and 1.5 D6.
The new Mahindra Verito is available in a range of new colours including Toreador Red, Fiery black, Java brown, Mist Silver, Twilight Blue, Rocky Beige and Diamond White. The Verito faces huge competition from other entry level sedans such as Toyota Etios, Maurti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Chevrolet Aveo, and many others.
Mahindra has launched the new Verito in two engine options: a 1.4ltr MPFI, and a 1.5litre CRDI engine. While the 1.5 common rail diesel engine offers a mediocre 65 bhp @ 4000 rpm, it compensates with its marvelous 160 Nm of torque @ 2000 rpm. This low-revving engine is easy to handle on city roads even though it produces a lot of power. The 1.4 liter petrol engine offers 75 bhp @ 5500 rpm. However, the 1.4 litre produces 110 Nm of torque @ 3000 rpm giving it the acceleration and speed worthy of the Mahindra name.
The Mahindra Verito comes equipped with the JH gearbox that has already proved its reliability with the Logan. The new Verito offers amazing fuel efficiency. The car has a top-speed of 155-160 km/h and reaches 0-100 km in 14 seconds. The 1.5L diesel engine has a top-speed of 150-155 km/h and attains a speed of 0-100 km in 17 seconds. The Verito with the 1.5litre engine offers amazing 21.03kmpl fuel efficiency.
Mahindra has changed very few details of the Logan and rebadged it as the Verito. So, the new Verito looks pretty much like the Logan with a little addition here and there. The Verito gets new roof-rails and scant body-cladding. A lip-spoiler has also been added on the boot to add to style to the Verito. Additionally, the Verito also flaunts fog lamps.
The Verito measures 4,247 mm in length, 1,740 mm in width and 1,540 mm in height and kerb weight of 1080-1140 kgs. With a wheelbase of 2,630 mm, its wide body offers comfortable seating, with enough headroom and legroom, in the front as well as the rear seat.
The Verito’s exterior is highlighted by prominent wheel arches, and smooth body sides and bonnet. The rear lamp clusters, placed at an angle, make the car’s structured edges look even while the headlamps give a sharp look to it. The rear of the Verito will now display a proud Mahindra badge rather than Renault’s.
The Mahindra Verito is the only car in its segment that has three head-rests in the rear seat; one for the middle occupant as well. The car’s beige interiors lend a bright and plush feel to it. With a boot capacity of 510litres, the Verito can carry luggage of all sizes. The boot provides a low loading platform and is protected by the boot lining from the upper part of the rear bumper.
The compartment layout of the car guarantees safety for all passengers in case of a frontal collision. In the event of a side impact, the car’s central pillar protects the occupants. Its fuel tank has been meticulously placed under the floor-pan, to avoid its bursting in case of a collision from the rear. A cross-member in the back of the rear seat prevents the entry of objects placed in the boot into the cabin.
The Verito has been modified to suit the Indian driving conditions. Its air-conditioning and heating system are designed to suit extreme climatic conditions found in the country. The Verito’s ground clearance of 172 mm makes driving on potholed and bumpy roads easier.
The Verito’s safety features include ABS with EBD, Driver Airbag, head restraint for all seats, side impact beams and driver information system.
