2011 model year Nissan GT-Rs will hit Middle East in the second quarter of next year. There’s a host of equipment and technical upgrades with a very modest facelift. And there’s also now a luxury ‘VVIP’ edition.
Nissan talks of updated aerodynamics and a sportier interior, but headline changes include increased power to 523bhp at 6400rpm while torque climbs to 451lb ft all the way from 3200-6000rpm. The company claims cleaner emissions and improved fuel economy thanks to an ultra-low metal catalyst and tweaked boost pressures.
To help you manoeuvre at low speeds, a new two-wheel-drive mode will temporarily shift the car to 2wd as long as the speed is below 10kph and the steering wheel is turned more than half way. Bye bye 12-point turns.
The Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT 600 DSST CTT tyre has a new compound to improve grip, says Nissan. And newly designed, lighter and more rigid forged alloy wheels improve tyre responsiveness to vertical load.
Knurling inside the wheel has been modified to avoid any tyre rotation deviation caused by the GT-R’s improved engine output, and there’s a new wheel colour: Hyper Blue Black Chrome.
Aero drag hasn't been left alone. Downforce has been increased by around 10%, and Nissan claims stability is improved by an enlarged bumper and grille openings.
There are also two seat choices: choose from Recaro Black - leather appointed bucket seat with red side flashes. This comes complete with a dark headlining and red flash on the gear lever.
The second choice is a premium leather covered seat available in black or light grey, a light grey coloured headlining providing a lighter feel to the interior.
World of GT-R
The ‘World of GT-R’ expands with the addition of a track use-only ‘Club Track’ edition and an ultra-exclusive ‘EGOIST’ version which will be badged and marketed as the ‘VVIP’ edition in the Middle East region.
The VVIP can be custom-ordered to the buyer’s personal specification. There will be six editions in total: Pure edition, Black edition, Premium edition, SpecV, Club Track and EGOIST.
Changes in addition to the above:
• fuel economy is improved to 8.5km/L (10-15 mode) or 8.6km/L (JC08 mode) (both Japanese domestic market measurements).
• There’s a new red color engine cover.
• A new SAVE mode optimizes driving torque and modifies the shifts to improve actual fuel economy and ‘also helps reduce ankle fatigue’.
• Body and rigidity strengthening
• Lareger bumper and grille openings, bumpers redesigned
• Six exterior colors are available, including two new colors: Meteo Flake Black Pearl (2P) and Aurora Flare Blue Pearl (2P).
• Revised instrument panel pad and navigation system display finisher, with different stitch lines.
• Real carbon center cluster trim with matte black finished switches.
• Chrome-plated rings in the console and air-conditioner outlets now finished with black smoky coating.
VVIP
Exclusively created by Takumi, or ‘master with greatest skills’. Each customer can choose a combination from among 20 colours for the interior. The interior bits are sent to Seton Company, Inc. Muelheim an der Ruhr in Germany for the leather upholstery.
